It grinds the beans automatically just before the brew cycle. The grinder runs at a predetermined time of around 15 seconds, and short of unplugging the machine, there’s no way to stop the grind process, which might annoy some users.

You can set it up to brew anything from 4 to 12 cups of coffee, depending on your needs. The keep warm function is nice to have and will keep your coffee at the optimal temperature for serving, without scalding it. The auto-off feature is also adjustable from 0 to 4 hours.

The “grind-off” feature is nice because if you prefer to use pre-ground coffee instead, you can just turn the grinder off.

You can also choose to brew with the included permanent gold tone filter or use individual paper filters if don’t care for fines in your coffee (like that of a European style of coffee).

I love Breville and I really wanted to love this machine, but there are just too many who have had an awful experience with it.

Mainly, those that are getting an 001 error code which relates to the disc that opens up to allow the grounds into the brew basket. To my knowledge, this happens when the disc becomes caked with grounds and becomes stuck, and incidentally, misaligned.

The fix is a call to customer support and/or perform a series of “plug it in…unplug it” procedures along with an extensive deep cleaning procedure after some “beyond daily cleaning” disassembly.

With this coffee maker being from Breville (and trusting their products), I hoped this was just a bug with an older machine, but after sorting the reviews by the most recent, the issue still exists.

It sounds like it IS a repairable error if you’re willing to dive in and get your hands dirty.

Regarding calls to and from customer support at Breville, users stated it was hit or miss. Some stated that the support was stellar and others claimed they never received a callback.

For this amount of money, we're not currently recommending this product. Let’s hope that Breville addresses these issues and comes out with a corrected model soon.
